Bill Barnes Horsemanship
at Stoney Creek Ranch
Bill Barnes is a rancher and horseman. Mentored by Buck Brannaman for over 22 years, he is dedicated to passing on the knowledge he has received. Helping people to enjoy their horses and enjoy the journey is his passion.
has owned ranches in the Sandhills of Nebraska and in Central Georgia, currently he owns and operates Stoney Creek Ranch. Located outside of Forsyth, GA, the ranch is home to Metallic Cat Quarter Horses and a prime Black Angus cattle herd.
Bill
Bill is also an orthopaedic surgeon and therefore understands the biomechanics of the human body. It made so much sense to him when he saw Buck Brannaman teach people to understand how a horse works. Seeing Buck ride convinced him this type of horsemanship really does fit the horse. It became a passion of his to share his knowledge with others. Raising horses and progressing them to do a real job is very gratifying, with the ultimate goal to make finished bridle horses.
Over the past ten years or so people have approached Bill about lessons and have asked him to share what he’s learning. He had always respectfully declined. He didn’t feel like it was the right time. But now after 22 years of pursuing this horsemanship with a passion he is ready to share what he his learning. In the meantime Bill will never stop furthering his own education by riding with his mentor Buck. He also encourages the people he works with to do the same. In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, “It’s not the destination, it’s the journey”.
Bill’s classes are designed to teach classical horsemanship to all levels in a way that fits how horses think and move. Training people and horses on a working ranch is a great advantage. There is always something to do, whether it’s roping and doctoring cattle, or moving them to a new pasture etc ... The horse always has a job.
