Stoney Creek Ranch offers a three month internship to individuals wanting to make some real headway towards becoming a horseman.

The goal of this internship is to teach classical horsemanship in a real life environment. By placing the individual in situations that cause meaningful questions, one can begin to grow.  Working under Bill Barnes you’ll experience different aspects of horsemanship, from colt starting to more refined work and a lot of time focused on the fundamentals. You’ll learn how to rope, and have the opportunity to hone your skills. You will be exposed to working cattle on a daily basis, learning what to look for and how to doctor livestock.

While you are here you’ll be expected to help with the wide range of tasks that go into running a horse/cattle ranch, from feeding and caring for livestock to maintaining fence and pastures, and much more. Most of the time, your opportunity to take lessons and ride directly with Bill will take place in the afternoon/evening of the weekdays, and all day Saturday. You will have an opportunity each morning when we ride, to practice the things that you are learning. You are highly encouraged to bring along a horse of your own, this gives you the chance for your own horse to advance while you are doing the same.

Additional Information

First of all if you are not familiar with Buck Brannaman, you need to watch the documentary “Buck”. It is available on Amazon prime and paid per view on YouTube and a few other platforms, it is a prerequisite to having an interview with us. Buck Brannaman is a world renowned horseman and clinician. He is one of the leading teachers in passing on the horsemanship methods of Ray Hunt and Tom Dorrance. The ideals projected in that film are in line with the environment we promote here at Stone Creek. Buck also has an educational DVD called "In The Snaffle Bit". This DVD is one of the most valuable tools you could have as a resource along your journey.
